Lace

The series entitled
Lace
comes from a video of the same name in which the artist displays looped images of a man's body doing lifting exercises. The
Lace
series is articulated here in the form of seven black and white framed drawings. Each of the seven drawings correspond to an excerpt of a sequence. End to end, they form a loop. On each drawing, Roman numerals ranging from I to XII remind the dial of a clock.
Lace
can illustrate the words of philosophy teacher Robert Redeker in his book
L'emprise sportive
(the influence of sports) considers that contemporary sport transforms athletes into mutants, a sort of New Man (Nietzsche). According to him, modern sport is the opposite of entertainment and, far from simply being a reflection of society, shapes it by constantly requiring performance from individuals.
